FROM PRESIDENT TO REVEREND... ALL IN A DAY'S WORK (Not a Real Bishop) © Copyright Marielena Montesino de Stuart

Anything is possible in Monaghan’s Utopia of Ave Maria, where the Pizza King rules.  Yes, even the president of the university can be declared “Reverend”– all in a day’s work.

Monaghan, who is very busy with his 70-year plan to remake Catholicism in America, may have forgotten  to inform the Bishop of this diocese about the extraordinary new appointment that has taken place in this remote town.

News of this event may not have reached the Bishop yesterday, before celebrating mass inside Monaghan’s colossal church.  But maybe that’s a good thing– because any opposition from the Bishop regarding these private religious matters in Ave Maria, is almost more than we can bear.

It appears that the Pizza King has come up with another ecclesiastical appointment, as noted on Monday, August 30th by the watchful eyes of the Naples Daily News, which ran a front-page piece centered on an issue that had already been covered several weeks ago by other news and information services–  about Bill Gates asking Tom Monaghan to join “The Giving Pledge”– a project where Gates and Warren Buffett ask the world’s richest to give “large chunks” of their wealth to charity.

“The Giving Pledge” seems more like a  ”feel-good therapy program” for the very rich, with lots of “look-at-me-and-what-I’m-doing” publicity, with an even “bigger chunk” of spin attached to it.   No quiet humble charity here.

But it seems that every one of Monaghan’s colossal stories has an equal colossal story behind it.

Back in the early days of Ave Maria Town, before Bishop Frank J. Dewane assumed responsibility of  (and rescued) the liturgy,  Nicholas J. Healy Jr., the president of Monaghan’s Ave Maria University (AMU) was referred to as ”Bishop Healy” by some in the town– as explained in the following excerpt:

In 2007, under Mr. Healy’s administration, a liturgical “directive” was issued through a priest who used to call himself “Chaplain” (a matter of public record). This liturgical “directive” stated authority over ecclesiastical matters at AMU.  Father John Zuhlsdorf  (Father Z) a famous American priest based in Rome, called this directive “pompous” and “inflammatory” on his widely read blog. It was during this time that people in Ave Maria began to refer to President Healy as “Bishop” Healy– while some of us quietly waited for Bishop Frank Dewane (the real Bishop) to exercise his authority.

Click HERE to read complete article.

Well, based on yesterday’s Naples Daily News it appears that Nick Healy may have regained the title of “Reverend” –

"REVEREND NICHOLAS HEALY" - FRONT PAGE ARTICLE - NAPLES DAILY NEWS - AUGUST 30, 2010

NAPLES DAILY NEWS - FRONT PAGE - AUGUST 30, 2010 - "SPREADING HIS WEALTH AND FAITH"

NAPLES DAILY NEWS - PAGE 5A - "SPREADING HIS WEALTH AND FAITH" - WITH REFERENCE TO "REVEREND NICHOLAS HEALY"

In line with the pomp and circumstance of Monaghan’s own publicity, one must not underestimate yesterday’s “Rev. Nicholas Healy” announcement, which is of equal or greater importance to The Giving Pledge– given that this second round as “Reverend” is consistent with Monaghan’s declaration that his law professors work in a “ministerial” capacity (reference article also available in PDF).   A true deliverance from all the aggravation and inconvenience of diocesan approval and protocol.

And since Ave Maria does not seem to follow the prevailing tide of opinion, a recognition ceremony and a big parade is in order – with big signs that should read “We Love You, Reverend.”

We have plenty of chances to do this while nobody is looking.

In the Town of Ave Maria, which is advertised for ”every lifestyle and every dream”– anything is possible, as we wait with bated breath for Monaghan to appoint our next pope.

Is Rick Scott bad news for The Jackson Lab-Ave Maria deal?

by Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The Roman Catholic World

August 26, 2010

If Rick Scott becomes governor of Florida, it may be the end of the Jackson Lab-Ave Maria tax payer funded proposal– and more than a few may end up shaking behind their desks, if Scott takes a slow walk down the halls of the Legislature.

Scott, a Naples businessman, defeated the GOP’s Tallahassee  establishment candidate, Bill McCollum, in the Florida Republican Primary for governor.  Scott has announced his pro-life stance, and his opposition to The Jackson Lab proposal.  The Naples Daily News reported on August 22nd that “Scott also doesn’t support the use of stimulus money, on which Jackson Labs is contingent.”

Yesterday, Scott voiced his support of a judge’s ruling that bars the use of taxpayer money for experiments that destroy human embryos.

This scenario is not good for The Jackson Lab-Ave Maria deal.

RICK SCOTT - FLORIDA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE (R)

The Jackson Lab’s proposed move to Ave Maria has been widely and publicly referred to as a taxpayer funded bail out (without the public’s vote) of the Barron Collier/Tom Monaghan/Ave Maria real estate “venture”– or shall we call it “experiment”?

In other words, The Jackson Lab-Ave Maria proposal is Florida’s very own model of socialist government expansion, and corporate welfare– wrapped in what appears to be one big bureaucratic scheme.  Meanwhile, a Naples Daily News  public poll continues to climb, with 84% against the use of any tax money for The Jackson Lab’s move to Ave Maria.

The Jackson Lab has a controversial past in Eugenics, and a controversial present in “workshops” and ”resources” for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research (HESC).   This week’s court ruling against the use of taxpayer money for experiments that destroy human embryos may affect the mutant mouse business, that The Jackson Lab promotes as “resources” for HESC research.

In addition, The Jackson Lab’s VP, Charles Hewett, has gone on record saying that they are “…not willing to rule out doing human embryonic stem cell research.”  This more than casts a cloud of doubt over the use of taxpayer money for The Jackson Lab deal.

Meanwhile, Tom Monaghan– the pizza-millionaire with a 70-year plan to remake Catholicism in America, who is also the Chancellor of Ave Maria University, has welcomed the proposed move of The Jackson Lab to the semi-transformed swamplands near the entrance of Ave Maria.

Monaghan has also been reported as having provided the land where The Jackson Lab would sit– which brings up an interesting question:

Who will Tom Monaghan support for governor of Florida at this point, when so much is at stake in Ave Maria?

Monaghan is well known for injecting himself into the political arena, by throwing his support behind candidates like Brownback and Romney.  But their political aspirations did not end well.  Was Monaghan the “kiss of death” in these campaigns?

ALEX SINK - FLORIDA GUBERNATORIAL CANDIDATE (D)

There is a woman named Alex Sink.  She is pro-choice and Democrat, and is competing against Scott for the governor’s seat.

Could Sink get a call from the pizza man?   Should she answer it?   Why not?

After all, Monaghan is honoring, in perpetuity, a billionaire/politician named Tom Golisano,  who has given breathtaking monetary support to NARAL-endorsed pro-choice politicians, including $1 million for Barack Obama in 2008.  Monaghan has been very happy to erect a building bearing Golisano’s name, on the Ave Maria University “unabashedly Catholic” campus.  Perhaps he could be equally happy to ask for Alex Sink’s support of The Jackson Lab-Ave Maria deal.

But the Ave Maria story has more twists than the Guoliang Tunnel in China.

The Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Venice in Florida issued a  public statement expressing his concerns over The Jackson Lab’s proposed move to Ave Maria.   Monaghan appears unmoved, and continues to welcome The Jackson Lab, in spite of the fact that the Bishop is also a member of the Board of Trustees of Ave Maria University.  And then of course, there is that ‘inconvenient’ 2008 document from the U.S. Bishops, calling Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research “gravely immoral.”

Interestingly,  Ave Maria University has never gained official Catholic recognition from the local Bishop, hence cannot call itself a “Catholic university” on its own website, nor on its promotional material.  In spite of this, the president of the university calls it “unabashedly Catholic.”

Meanwhile, Monaghan is moving full steam ahead, as evident in his long-standing aspiration, which appeared in Canada’s Catholic Register (May 14, 2010):

Under Monaghan’s plan, the seven-year-old university with more than 700 students will, by 2077, produce 4,000 priests — “good priests” — 2,500 nuns, 400 “top notch” theologians, 8,000 teachers for U.S. Catholic schools, 1,500 school principals and 40,000 “strong Catholic marriages” which will in turn produce 150,000 children and 500,000 grandchildren.

One wonders why The Jackson Lab would even want to find itself in Ave Maria’s bizarre and conflicting state, where Monaghan is such an influential figure– unless the folks at The Jackson Lab have a plan in place to put an end to the pizza-man’s smoke and mirrors.

Add to this the indignation and hostility from Collier County citizens, who do not want to be forced to pay for The Jackson Lab-Ave Maria deal.

All this brings to mind Greg Erlandson, the president and publisher of Our Sunday Visitor, and his now famous observation:

“Those whom the gods wish to destroy, they first introduce to Tom Monaghan.”

Maybe Alex Sink should just… let the phone ring.  And don’t eat the pizza.

Rick Scott’s Gubernatorial Campaign Spokeswoman Speaks to Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The Roman Catholic World

August 24, 2010

UPDATE  Aug. 24, 2010 – 11:30pm:  Rick Scott has been declared the winner in the Florida Republican gubernatorial primary.

Rick Scott’s Gubernatorial Campaign Spokeswoman Speaks to Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The Jackson Lab has a dark past in Eugenics, and a dark present in “workshops” and ”resources” for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

by Marielena Montesino de Stuart

The Jackson Lab deal in Collier County stands as another example of governmental massive expansion, and its power to maneuver public funds into the corporate sector.  As such, there is tremendous concern over the Collier County Board of Commissioners’s decision  on July 27th to continue pursuing The Jackson Lab deal, without the public’s vote– and in spite of the Productivity Committee’s negative report about the Jackson Lab proposal.  A public poll shows  84% are against any public funding of the biomedical research facility’s  move to Ave Maria, Florida.

Many see The Jackson Lab deal as an example of government run by bureaucrats who care more about their schemes than the will of the people.  The Jackson Lab has a dark past in Eugenics, and a dark present in “workshops” and ”resources” for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

His Excellency, Bishop Frank J. Dewane of the Catholic Diocese of Venice in Florida has expressed serious concerns over The Jackson Lab’s move to Ave Maria.   In June 2008 the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops approved  a 2,000-word policy statement calling embryonic stem-cell research “gravely immoral.”   Yet, Tom Monaghan and Nicholas J. Healy, Jr., Chancellor and President of Ave Maria University, respectively, have both welcomed The Jackson Lab’s proposed move to Ave Maria, after the university was touted as  ”unabashedly Catholic.”

RICK SCOTT - Florida Gubernatorial Race - 2010

In comes Republican millionaire, Rick Scott, who is running for governor of Florida, as a “jobs creator and conservative outsider.”  Scott’s campaign spokeswoman, Jennifer Baker, spoke with me on Monday regarding Mr. Scott’s stance on The Jackson Lab proposal—a stance which was described as previously… somewhat unclear in a piece published by the Naples Daily News on Sunday night at 10:19pm EST, after Scott’s visit to Naples.

The following is an excerpt of Ms. Baker’s statement:

“This was the first time he [Rick Scott] was asked [about The Jackson Lab proposal].  His comments last night speak to what he thinks about the Jackson lab deal.  This has not been a major issue in the campaign, so we do not talk about it every day.  The Naples Daily News quote, I think, very clearly articulates his position on the deal. I think that Rick’s statement is very clear as to where he stands on the issue. It’s very clear what he thinks about the deal.”

I asked Ms. Baker how Rick Scott feels about the fact that Collier County citizens are not being given the right to vote on the Jackson lab proposal.  Ms. Baker responded that Rick Scott was on an airplane and could not be reached for specific comments.

The Naples Daily News wrote:

The Jackson Labs deal doesn’t look to be the answer, he [Rick Scott] said on Sunday night… [Rick Scott] finished his sentence saying it looked to be a bad deal for taxpayers.

Regarding similar deals across the state, including  U.S. Sugar and the Tri-Rail project, Scott began on Sunday as he had throughout the campaign:

“Spend capital where you’re going to get a return on investment.”  “Would  we do this with our own money?” he asked the crowd.

“The way I look at all these projects is that there is not a good return, so I wouldn’t support it.”

Scott also doesn’t support the use of stimulus money, on which Jackson Labs is contingent.

In addition, the following statement appeared today on Rick Scott’s campaign website:

August 24, 2010 by Campaign Staff

Scott Applauds Court’s Decision To Halt Funding Of Embryonic Stem-Cell Research

Fort Lauderdale, FL – A Federal judge today issued a temporary ban on the Obama Administration’s executive order aimed at the expansion of federal funding for embryonic stem-cell research.

“We applaud the court’s decision to halt the Obama Administration’s attempt to expand federal funding of embryonic stem-cell research, this is a good result for those on side of life,” said Scott campaign spokesman Jennifer Baker. “Voters should consider that just a few years ago, Bill McCollum went on the record saying this kind of destruction of life is ‘a pro-life position.’ We look forward to taking on Alex Sink as she tries to push Obama’s liberal pro-abortion agenda on Florida.”

Rick Scott has stated that he wants to be held accountable.  Should he win, his wish is our command.

THE CHRONICLES OF AVE MARIA©: Is The Jackson Lab Deal a Con Job?

The Roman Catholic World

August 10, 2010

by Marielena Montesino de Stuart

“The Jackson Lab ‘deal’ is perceived by many as an orchestrated bailout of Tom Monaghan and Barron Collier’s own real estate petri dish– Ave Maria Town.”

Undoubtedly, the basic reason why so many people believe the claims being made by ”genetic and personalized medicine” experts is that a prevention can and must be found for all diseases and abnormalities.  As if we could live forever– not according to a divine plan– but according to the rules of scientific materialism.

The narrative coming from not a few in the field of genetics is that anyone who opposes their scientific efforts to explore and experiment with life, is just plain misguided and irrational.  Accordingly, any doubts expressed about genetics and “personalized medicine”  is disbelieved a priori, as an attempt to hold back scientific advancement.

What does this PETRI DISH have in common with AVE MARIA TOWN?

The battle is raging in Collier County,  over the proposed use of taxpayer’s money to bring The Jackson Lab to Ave Maria. The Jackson Lab is a facility with a dark past in Eugenics, and an active involvement in “workshops” and “resources” for Human Embryonic Stem Cell Research.

The public poll being conducted by the Naples Daily News continues to increase in numbers, indicating that 84% are opposed to any taxpayer funding of The Jackson Lab.  The Jackson Lab “deal” is perceived by many as an orchestrated bailout of Tom Monaghan and Barron Collier’s own real estate petri dish– Ave Maria Town.

Bryan Hanypsiak MD, is Director of Medical Education at Arthrex, Inc.  Arthrex is an international firm based in  Naples, and a leading provider of medical instruments for arthroscopic surgery.

On the subject of The Jackson Lab’s proposed move to Ave Maria, Dr. Hanypsiak wrote:

Jackson Lab officials did not identify Naples because of the cheap land or the Ave Maria University campus.

They could get that deal anywhere. They are not going to establish a medical school at Ave Maria; you need major health-care systems located on campus to do that. They came to take advantage of our affluent community members, conning them into thinking that the research they do today will save them from the diseases that killed their parents.”
