A humorous look at Francis’s fascinating schedule on October 31, 2016
My readers know by now that I am not a fan of ecumenism. As such, I have friends from various religious backgrounds and cultures– but I do not partake in the celebration of their religious events. Language, culture, food and music, yes. But religious events, no.
It is my opinion, as well as that of many faithful Catholics, including Popes, that it is impossible to celebrate the milestones of another religion– if we are to stay true to our own religion. In fact, one who gets this right is the chief rabbi of Rome, Riccardo Di Segni, who has repeatedly said “No” to theological dialogue. Read his latest “No” to Francis here.
Such is not the case with the modernist Vatican– where just about everything is celebrated and anyone is embraced, no matter what. After all, we have seen Communist despots like Raúl Castro enjoy a reception with Francis– and today he even met with the President of Iran, Hassan Rouhani.
So on October 31, 2016 Francis will travel to Sweden to commemorate the Protestant Reformation, on the day that marks Martin Luther’s hammering of his “95 Theses” on the doors of All Saints Church in Wittenberg.
Yes, you read that right. Francis will join in the activities to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the rejection of the Pope and the Vatican in 1517, by Martin Luther. Go figure.
As is customary during these ecumenical encounters, gifts will surely be exchanged– and I anticipate that Francis will head back to the Vatican with Martin Luther’s “95 Theses” as a gift to be carried in his briefcase– which begs the question: is Francis launching a modernist tradition, which could lead Roman Catholics to hammer the “95 Theses” on the door of their local Roman Catholic Church every October 31? Think about it, wouldn’t they simply be reasserting what’s already going on inside most parishes? God help us.
Someone has to say the truth…
